A senior citizen drowned in a river in Barangay Cambang-ug, Toledo City, Province of Cebu.
Based on investigation conducted by the Toledo Philippine National Police (PNP), the 62-year-old man had a drinking session with his son in their residence prior to the incident.
After the drinking session, they left to join a fiesta celebration past 11 a.m. on June 28, 2025.
When the two crossed the river to get to the area where the fiesta was celebrated, the man’s flip-flops were swept away.
He tried to reach out for the flip-flops but drifted to a deep portion of the river.
His son said he first sought help as he does not know how to swim, and that he was tipsy also at that time.
The drowning incident was first reported to the Toledo City PNP Station. The station coordinated with the Toledo City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.
Responders include personnel from the Bureau of Fire Protection and Philippine Coast Guard.
The retrieved body of the senior citizen was rushed to the hospital, but was pronounced dead on arrival.
