Newly elected officials from the 2025 midterm elections officially began their term at 12:01 p.m. on June 30, 2025, with citizens across the country hoping they deliver on their campaign promises.

According to GMA Integrated News Research, more than 18,000 local and national officials assumed office on Sunday, June 29, 2025.

These include 12 senators who will serve for six years, and thousands of congressmen, governors, vice governors, board members, mayors, vice mayors, and councilors who will serve for three years.

As in previous elections, the public is once again placing its trust in these leaders, and is calling on them to act beyond just promises.

“Sana po ay matulungan nila ang mga unemployed na magkatrabaho po,” McBhile Tirao, a young voter, said.

“‘Yung ibibigay nilang tulong sa nangangailangan, tuparin nila,” Jastine Cherry Ulanday, another voter who is also a mother, added.

Some senior citizens, like Ptr. Bonnie Callejo, are also hoping for unity among public officials and action on corruption.

“Kung walang pagkakaisa, mahirap. Hindi sila makakakilos,” he said.

COMELEC-Region 1 Acting Regional Election Director Atty. Reddy Balarbar reminded the officials to honor their platforms.

“Nangako sila noong nakaraang halalan, may mga plataporma silang inilatag sa mga botante. Pinaniwalaan ‘yan ng mga botante. So, kung maaari, tuparin nila ‘yung mga naipangako nila,” Balarbar said.

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) also advised officials to carry out their duties according to the Local Government Code.

Meanwhile, the UP National College of Public Administration and Governance emphasized that citizens’ responsibilities do not end after casting their votes.

They said Filipinos must continue to monitor and hold their leaders accountable.
