A newborn boy was found dead wrapped in an eco bag and abandoned in an electric jeepney (e-jeepney) in Barangay San Isidro, General Santos City.

The discovery was made after the driver of the e-jeepney and his young male companion handed over an item reportedly left by a passenger to their terminal dispatcher for safekeeping.

What initially appeared to be an ordinary bag turned out to contain the dead body of a newborn boy.

“What I’m thinking is baka gamit siya like something na kailangan itapon or anything, para kahit papano dili manimaho. Tatlo siya na supot actually ang nabuksan, una eco bag na red, pagbukas ko may cellophane ulit red pa rin… pagbukas ko ng pangatlo doon na ako nag double checking… pagtingin ko sa gilid doon ako nag-shaking kay nakita ko ulo na ng baby,” terminal dispatcher, Fatima Dianne Baladec, said.

The barangay social services said the baby was a full-term infant, based on the medical assessment.

“Actually, mga 37 to 38 weeks or 9 months na,” Barangay Social Services Department Head, Bienvenido Daming, said.

Based on investigation, a female passenger boarded the e-jeepney from a mall and got off near Barangay Mabuhay. She allegedly left behind the eco bag under her seat.

“Hindi pa natin ma-identify. Definitely babae nakita, according doon sa driver at saka sa bata nagsabi,” Barangay Chairman Edward Frederick Yumang said.

Authorities are now handling the proper disposition of the baby’s remains while the police continue to search for the passenger who left the baby and identify the mother.
