Several areas in Davao region have experienced flooding and landslides due to continuous heavy rains.
The flooding in Magsaysay, Davao del Sur even interrupted a wake after floodwaters entered houses in Barangay Tacul. Residents carried and moved the coffin to the barangay gymnasium. It was later returned to the family’s home after the floodwaters subsided.
Rescue teams also launched operations to assist stranded residents in Purok Bankerohan and Purok Kawayanon.
Flooding occurred after a creek reportedly overflowed, reaching houses built along the creek and eventually spilling onto the roads.
At least 26 families residing near the creek in Purok Kawayan were evacuated. They returned to their homes after the floodwaters receded.
Crops were also damaged after rice fields were inundated.
In Davao Occidental, the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) of Don Marcelino issued an advisory evening on Saturday, June 28, 2025, warning motorists that only motorcycles could pass through a section of the road in Sitio Saladoc, Barangay Kinanga due to a landslide that left rocks and muds blocking the road.
The next day, MDRRMO said all types of vehicles were able to pass again after the Department of Public Works and Highways conducted clearing operations.
Meanwhile, visibility dropped significantly along the Talaingod-Bukidnon National Highway afternoon on Saturday due to intense rains.
Motorists were forced to use headlights even if it was still daytime.
According to a netizen who uploaded a video online, aside from a landslide, torrents of water also flowed down the mountain slopes onto the road.
State weather bureau PAGASA said southwest monsoon or Habagat continues to affect major parts of the country, particularly in Mindanao.
