An injured Philippine serpent eagle was rescued after crash-landing into a beauty parlor in Barangay Mateo, Kidapawan City while fleeing from a group of attacking crows.

The juvenile raptor, weighing around 1.2 kilos, was found stunned and injured. It suffered trauma in its right eye due to the assault and the impact of the fall.

The incident was reported the next day to the Mt. Apo Natural Park-Protected Area Management Office (MANP-PAMO), prompting the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) Cotabato to deploy its Wildlife Rescue Team to retrieve the bird.

The bird was turned over to the University of Southern Mindanao (USM) Wildlife Rescue Center for temporary care, medical treatment, and close monitoring.

“PENRO Cotabato highlighted the ecological role of the Philippine Serpent Eagle, particularly in controlling rodent and snake populations,” the Department of Environment and Natural Resource-SOCCSKSARGEN (DENR-12) said.

DENR officials have called on the public to report sightings of injured or distressed wildlife to authorities immediately as early response is crucial for successful rehabilitation and conservation of native species.
