A 31-year-old fisherman was rescued after he fell off his boat while at sea near Takela Island in Basilan on Monday, June 30, 2025.
Personnel of the PNP Maritime Group found the fisherman during a search and rescue operation. He was provided immediately with dry clothing after being rescued safely along the coastline.
The man was reported missing at 1:30 p.m. on the same day, when a concerned resident spotted his boat drifting unmanned in the waters of Maluso.
The fisherman told authorities that he was knocked overboard after his small fishing vessel was hit by strong waves and gusty winds brought by bad weather conditions. He swam to the nearest shore.
The fisherman is now in stable condition.
Meanwhile, unfavorable weather conditions triggered a landslide that blocked a road in San Juan, Pamongot, Barangay Talaguton, Don Marcelino, Davao Occidental.
According to the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), the ground softened due to continuous rains in previous days, prompting authorities to restrict the road to motorcycle use only.
The road has become passable again morning on Tuesday, July 1, after the Municipal Engineering Office and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) conducted clearing operations.
State weather bureau PAGASA said the southwest monsoon or Habagat continues to affect weather conditions across Mindanao.
