A taxicab driver was found dead inside his unit in Barangay Mactan, Lapu-Lapu City morning on Wednesday, July 2, 2025.

He sustained gunshot wounds, believed to be perpetrated by a robber.

The victim was identified as Johny Burdas, 47 years old, a resident of Barangay Bankal, Lapu-Lapu City. He sustained gunshot wounds on the head and on the chest.

A  closed-circuit television camera (CCTV) at a store in Sitio Ka Isko, Barangay Mactan captured the taxi passing in the area, placing the hazard lights on about eight minutes before proceeding to a vacant lot to park.

At about 4 a.m. of July 2, 2025, residents found the cabbie dead.

According to Police Lieutenant Colonel Christian Torres, spokesperson of Lapu-Lapu City Police Office, they have considered the angle of robbery as the cellphone and wallet of the victim were missing.

Two slugs of a caliber .45 firearm were recovered from the crime scene.
