A heavy rain shower that began around 4 p.m. on July 1, 2025 caught many residents by surprise, and caused sudden flooding in parts of Barangay Irisan and triggered landslides in areas in Benguet and Mountain Province.

Footage shared online showed cars struggling through flooded streets in Baguio with barangay officials and authorities rushing to assist motorists who were stranded.

Ngayon ulan lang, nag-flood na,” Arthur Carlos, Barangay Chairman of Irisan, said.

The flood lasted more than an hour before subsiding. No injuries were reported, but the incident raised concerns about the city’s drainage system and its preparedness during the rainy season.

Meanwhile, a minor landslide was reported along Kennon Road due to the same weather disturbance.

In Catlubong, Buguias, Benguet, another landslide occurred, prompting authorities to implement a one-way traffic scheme in Barangay Poblacion, Bauko, Mountain Province, as a precaution.

Authorities are now monitoring high-risk areas closely for possible landslides, rockslides, and flash floods.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) also warned that more intense rains are expected in the coming days.

Larry Esperanza, PAGASA Baguio Chief Meteorologist, said.
