The Cebu Provincial Government is set to release P80 million for the 16 Capitol-run hospitals in the province.
On the second day of her official duties, Governor Pamela Baricuatro has ordered the release of the said amount.
According to Provincial Administrator Ace Durano, the 16 hospitals will receive P5 million each expected to be released on the second week of July 2025.
Baricuatro vowed to release the amount for the “immediate and emergency purchase of medicines, medical supplies, and other related necessities” to enhance the response capacity of hospitals.
She found out reportedly that the hospitals lack resources, even fuel for ambulances.
Of the 16 Capitol-operated hospitals, 10 are on infirmary level yet which means apparent lack in capacity to attend to larger concerns of patients.
Baricuatro’s goal is to raise the status to Level 1 so these 10 hospitals can perform minor surgeries.
Further, Baricuatro will work on expediting the upgrade of hospitals so patients would not be referred to hospitals in Cebu City anymore, as the 16 Capitol-run hospitals would be fully equipped and capacitated to deal with patient care and management.
