At least 14 classrooms at a school in Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental were submerged in floodwaters following continuous heavy rains.

The flooding disrupted classes in at least 16 sections of Casinglot Elementary School as water entered the classrooms.

A teacher captured on video the flooded state of her classroom on Friday, July 4, 2025, following heavy rains from afternoon until evening on Thursday.

Several classrooms were still flooded while floodwaters in other classrooms were slowly subsiding on Friday.

One of the classrooms affected belongs to Grade 1 teacher Ledelma Filipino. No face-to-face classes were held because of the flood.

Some teachers had to wear boots inside the classroom and students helped in scooping out the water.

Teachers are hoping that the problem would be solved so classes will not be disrupted further.

According to school head, Noel Abao, the flooding was not just caused by the rain, but also by ongoing classroom construction within the campus.

The construction reportedly affected the school’s drainage system, causing water to stagnate and enter the classrooms.

“Mao gyud na siya ang realidad nga nindot gyud ang bata nga naa sa classroom pero wala man tay lain mahimo kay ang tubig naa man gyud kay sauna ang sakit nga leptospirosis delikado muna usa pud sa among ginalikay,” Abao said.

Some of the school’s stakeholders have already donated soil to help raise the ground level and prevent flooding in the future.
