The Municipal Health Office, Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, and the Bureau of Fire Protection will conduct disinfection and decontamination at Pis-anan National High School and Pis-anan Central School in Sibalom town, Province of Antique.

According to the Local Government Unit of Sibalom, the disinfection and decontamination will be done to clean up walls, tables, chairs, and other school facilities and ensure safety upon the resumption of in-person classes.

The disinfection and decontamination will be done as soon as the Department of Health and other experts are done collecting samples from various locations in the campus.

Students are expected to shift to modular learning, as suspension of face-to-face classes is expected to take time.

To recall, a total of 268 students who complained of shortness of breath, dizziness, chest pain, nausea, and vomiting were rushed to the hospital after inhaling foul fumes on July 2, 2025, resembling reportedly the odor of rotten guava.

As of this writing, at least 70 students are still confined at the hospitals.

Dispense is expected by night of Friday, July 4, 2025, or by Saturday, July 5, 2025 depending on the assessment of attending physicians.

According to Rodel Esler, information officer of the Unified Incident Command Center in Sibalom, four angles are being pursued on the possible source of the stench.

“Ang spraying ng chemicals. Second, ang air content. Ang third, ang nangyari na pagsabog and ang fourth, kinu-consider rin ang hazardous chemicals na pwedeng ginamit sa eskwelahan at sa paligid,” Esler said.
