Bangka operators in Barangay Pantal, Dagupan City are struggling to earn as fewer passengers ride boats due to the bad weather.

“Takot silang sumakay dahil malakas yung agos ng ilog,” Roland Villanueva, a bangka operator, said.

Despite this, some still risk riding boats to shorten their travel time and save on fare. A trip costs P5 per person, but if a person is riding alone, the fare goes up to P20. Each bangka can carry up to seven passengers.

Meanwhile, some fishing boats remain docked even though there is no gale warning issued in the province.

The Dagupan City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) continues to monitor the city’s rivers closely, especially with the persistent rains.

“Nasa below alert level pa naman ‘yung Sinucalan-Pantal River. ‘Yun ang binabantayan natin,” Dagupan DRRM Officer Ronald de Guzman said.

Because of continuous rain, parts of riverside barangays are now experiencing flooding. While the situation is still manageable, water cannot drain properly due to the lack of drainage systems.

As of the 6:30 a.m. on July 7, 2025, monitoring by the Pangasinan PDRRMO, water levels have reached above normal in the Marusay River in Calasiao and the Balingcaguing River in Mabini.

Authorities continue to monitor river conditions across the province as rains from the southwest monsoon or “habagat” persist.
