Authorities are urging motorists to continue using the Marcos Highway following the landslide that hit a section of the kennon Road in Tuba, Benguet evening on Sunday, July 6, 2025.
The landslide forced motorists to take refuge in the tunnel in Camp 6 as rocks began to fall.
In a video taken by a concerned citizen, several vehicles were seen stuck inside the tunnel as some people rushed to safety.
The landslide occurred around 7 p.m. Clearing operations were carried out immediately by authorities.
By Monday, July 7, 2025, Kennon Road became passable again but authorities advised motorists strongly to still use the Marcos Highway instead.
“Kapag sa Kennon naman, open. Kaso nga lang, you need sobrang precaution kasi marami pa ring naghuhulugan na mga bato,” Jun Alejo of the MDRRMO-Tuba, Benguet, said.
MINERS
Meanwhile, in Sitio Acupan, Camp 3, Barangay Virac in Itogon, Benguet, small-scale miners are still not allowed to enter tunnels due to the risk of more landslides caused by continuous rains from the southwest monsoon or habagat.
Clearing operations are ongoing, as of this writing.
“Dahil sa dami ng ulan, nakikita namin na marami pang bato, mga boulder, at tubig na bababa mula sa bundok,” Engr. Cyril Batcagan, Itogon DRRM Officer, said.
Authorities also inspected the makeshift homes of the miners to check for safety.
