Two houses were damaged while a resident was injured when a tree fell as rain poured in Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental.
The Anonang tree used to stand in Zone 6B in Barangay Natumolan.
One of the houses collapsed after the impact caused significant damage to the roof and second floor.
A newborn baby who was at the second floor is safe. However, the baby’s mother sustained minor injury.
“Nahagba na gyud diay ang ilang atop dayun nakuluban ang iyang anak kay na ana naman ang iyang atop didto dayun sa iyang likod nadapat naa pa gani daw bation niya ron muna ga-check-apon pa gyud siya didto sa brgy,” affected resident, Mycel Orasan, said.
Personnel of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) removed the tree the next day.
The residents affected are staying temporarily at the barangay hall while they look for funds to repair their houses.
They are also appealing to the public for donations like construction materials.
“Pareha ani among kinahanglan kahoy, sin ug mga lansang ug kanang paglihok namo ana kay dili baya namo na mahuman og usa ka adlaw mao gyud na ang among gapangayuon,” Orasan added.
