A policeman was arrested in La Union after allegedly uploading sensitive videos of his former girlfriend online and using them to blackmail her for sex, according to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).
Agents of the NBI Ilocos Regional Office, with help from the PNP Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group (IMEG), arrested the suspect during an entrapment operation at a restaurant in Rosario, La Union.
The man, a police officer with the rank of patrolman, was caught after attempting to meet the victim again, reportedly to pressure her into granting his demands.
“Tinawagan ng complainant ang dati niyang kasintahan, nagmamakaawa na burahin ang mga inupload niyang videos sa isang dummy account. Subalit pinilit ng subject na makipagkita ulit sa huling pagkakataon upang mapagbigyan ang kanyang makamundong kagustuhan,” Atty. Joel Tovera, Regional Director of the NBI Ilocos Regional Office, said.
According to investigators, the suspect uploaded intimate videos of his ex-girlfriend using a fake social media account.
When the victim pleaded for the videos to be taken down, the suspect allegedly used the clips to threaten and blackmail her.
NBI agents seized the officer’s service firearm and cellphone, which were used reportedly to upload the videos and communicate with the victim.
Tovera reminded the public that no one is above the law.
“Huwag mag-atubili na magreklamo. Kahit sino man po ang inyong sasampahan ng reklamo, huwag po kayong matakot,” he said.
The suspect remains in the custody of the NBI while further investigation is ongoing. His name has not been released pending official charges.
