Authorities arrested two people and seized alleged smuggled cigarettes worth more than P26.4 million at a checkpoint in Zamboanga City.

Personnel of the 2nd Zamboanga City Mobile Force Company and other law enforcement units intercepted a closed van loaded with assorted cigarettes believed to be smuggled at the checkpoint.

Two suspects, a 33-year-old resident of Barangay Tumaga and a 37-year-old resident of Barangay San Jose Cawa-Cawa, were arrested.

The items confiscated were turned over to the Bureau of Customs (BOC).

“This accomplishment serves as a clear message to those involved in smuggling operations—our personnel are alert, our checkpoints are active, and we will act decisively to stop illegal activities,” Police Regional Office-Zamboanga (PRO-9) Director, Brigadier General Roel Rodolfo, said.
