Two separate road accidents involving drunk motorcycle riders led to the death of two men in Nueva Vizcaya.
In Bagabag, a 29-year-old rider died after he was dragged nearly 40 meters by a truck he and the motorcycle he was driving collided accidentally with along the national highway.
The incident happened late evening on Monday, July 7, 2025.
Police said the rider was under the influence of alcohol and was swerving across the road until he entered the opposite lane and crashed into an oncoming truck.
The impact caused the rider to get stuck under the vehicle, dragging him several meters. He died from severe head injuries.
The rider’s family and the truck driver have since reached a settlement.
“Dahil nga sa biglang pagsalpok niya, hindi agad nakapag-preno itong sasakyan [ng truck] dahil nga mabigat ‘yung karga niyang puro palay. Kaya hindi naka-menor kaagad kaya kinaladkad pa siya ['yung rider] ng ilang metro,” PMaj. Oscar Abrogena, chief of the Bagabag Police Station, said.
ANOTHER DRUNK DRIVING FATALITY
In a separate incident on the same day, a 46-year-old farmer was declared dead on arrival at the hospital after his motorcycle was hit by another speeding motorcycle in Dupax del Norte, Nueva Vizcaya, around 7 p.m.
According to police, the victim was about to make a turn when the fast-approaching motorcycle crashed into him.
Both the rider and the back rider of the speeding motorcycle sustained injuries.
Police said the rider involved in the crash was also drunk and has yet to issue a statement.
