A woman who was supposed to visit an inmate at the Butuan City Jail Male Dormitory in Barangay Libertad was arrested after she was found allegedly trying to smuggle suspected shabu into the jail on July 8, 2025.

She allegedly hid the suspected shabu in her private parts.

Police identified the suspect as alias “Aiza,” 36, nail technician, and a resident of Barangay de Oro.

She was supposed to visit a certain “Ed,” who is detained for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act (RA 9165).

Officials of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) said the alleged contraband was discovered during a routine “squat-and-cough” procedure inside the female strip search area.

The female jail officer reportedly noticed a cellophane-like material protruding from the suspect’s genital area. The officer asked the woman to surrender the item. The woman refused, initially, but gave in later.

Upon inspection, the item seized was found to be a condom containing one roll of tobacco, a sachet of suspected shabu, and several aluminum foil.

The woman was then arrested and will face charges for violation of RA 9165.

"Ako nagapasalamat sa kabinantayon ug propesyonalismo sa atong BJMP partners dinhi sa Butuan. Tungod kanila, napugngan ang pagsulod sa ilegal nga droga sulod sa presuhan,” Butuan City Police Office Director, Col. Rommel Villamor, said.

“Kini usa ka seryosong pahimangno sa tanan nga misulay og pag-abusar sa atong mga pasilidad sa pagpanghawid alang sa ilegal nga droga. Dili kamo magmalamposon. Padayon ang among kooperasyon sa BJMP aron mabuntog ang droga sulod ug gawas sa prisohan,” he added.
