Prices of eggs in local markets have gone up almost every week since June 2025, and vendors say supplies remain tight. Chicken meat prices have also stayed high for the third week in a row.

Before heading to work, Marissa Ocumen, a shopper, drops by the market to grab her usual egg supply.

“‘Yun po ang madaling lutuin po, at saka paborito ko po ang itlog,” she said.

But for buyers like her, eggs are no longer as affordable. Small-sized eggs that once cost P6 per piece now sell for P8. Medium eggs rose to P8.50 from P7. Large eggs jumped to P9 from P8 each.

According to Divina Gracia Abalos, an egg retailer, supply from farms in Mapandan and Tarlac has dropped.

“Sabi ng farm, konti lang daw ang suplay. Kaya tumataas mga itlog nila. Ang problema, halos linggo-linggo nagtataas sila ng presyo. Kaya mga retailer sa palengke, halos wala na ring kita,” she said.

Aside from limited supply, the cost of chicken feed has also gone up, this reportedly contributed to the weekly price hikes. Vendors fear prices may continue to climb in the coming weeks.

Chicken meat, meanwhile, is also more expensive. Fershie Rico, a meat vendor, said they are struggling to source supply.

“P240 po kasi wala pong makuhanan ng suplay,” she said.

The price used to be just P200 per kilo.

The Samahang Industriya ng Agrikultura (SINAG) is now monitoring the trade of eggs and poultry products closely in the market.
