The local government of Polomolok, South Cotabato is set to enforce strictly speed limits on vehicles to reduce the rising number of road accidents in the town.
Several traffic enforcers conducted a pilot testing using speed guns along the national roads as part of the preparations for the stricter enforcement of the town’s speed limit ordinance on July 4, 2025.
The local government said an ordinance regarding speed limits has been passed in 2014 but was not strictly enforced in the years that followed.
However, with the increasing number of vehicular accidents, many of which were suspected to be caused by overspeeding, the local government is now planning to amend and reinforce the ordinance.
“Gusto nato sa local government unit na ma-lessen ang number of vehicular accidents nga nagahitabo in the national highway and some other areas in the municipality of Polomolok,” town administrator, Joven Malida, said.
According to the local government, the speed limit in four strategic areas in the town will be set to 50 to 60 kilometer per hour.
The speed limit along with the corresponding penalties for violators will still undergo deliberations by the Sangguniang Bayan. “There will be penalties for them but I would like also to inform you that the implementation is in partnership with LTO, LTFRB, DPWH, and PNP,” Malida added.
