A car caught fire morning on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at the Diversion Road in Barangay Dungon A, Jaro District, Iloilo City.
According to the driver, the owner of the car, identified as Raul Alcala, he saw smoke billowing from the hood of the vehicle that prompted him to pull over.
He said he jumped out of the vehicle immediately. He has no companion when the incident happened.
“Nang nakita ko ang usok, pinatay ko ang makina ngunit kumapal pa ang usok. Lumabas ako kaagad kasi baka sumabog,” Alcala said.
Alcala pointed out there was no indication of any malfunction when he used the car prior to the incident.
He said he was supposed to go to the Western Visayas Medical Center for a checkup when the incident happened.
The fire was placed under control upon the arrival of firefighters. According to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Iloilo City, the fire started in the engine of the car, and may have been caused by faulty electrical connections.
“Doon sa engine area ang pinagmulan. Ngayon under investigation pa,” according to FO2 Earl Anthony Darroca, BFP Iloilo City fire investigator.
Damage cost is yet to be determined, as of this writing.
