The taxi driver in Davao City accused of overcharging a couple has apologized when he faced his passengers during a hearing at the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board-Davao (LTFRB-11) on Tuesday, July 8, 2025.
The complainant, Ronnie Suicano, said the driver allegedly charged them nearly P3,000 for a trip to the Davao City Overland Transport Terminal (DCOTT) from Davao International Airpot, which has distance of over 12 kilometers.
The complaint went viral on social media, prompting immediate action from LTFRB-11 and Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines-Davao (CAAP-11).
“Ang akoa gyud ana ma’am, di na gyud siya ka-drive… basin mabuhat pa na sa lain ba,” Suicano said.
The taxi driver claimed what happened was an honest mistake as he thought the passenger gave him P300 since the fare reflected on the meter was P270.
“Namislook lang ma’am… abi nako’g P300 maong gikambyuhan nako’g traynta unya P3,000 man diay… nihulat rako nga naay mo-complain,” the taxi driver said.
However, the complainant maintained that he saw P2,970 on the meter and even argued with the driver, questioning why the fare was so high.
“Ako gyud basa ato sa metro P2,970 gyud… sige nako og ingon nga dako. Kabalo man siya tres mil akong gihatag, iyaha untang giuli ang sobra,” Suicano said.
LTFRB-11 is now reviewing the case.
If the driver is found guilty of overcharging, his license could be revoked, and both he and the operator may be fined and face other penalties.
