A 15-year-old boy was taken into police custody after he allegedly stabbed a pedicab driver during a riot between two groups of minors in Barangay Macabalan, Cagayan de Oro City.

The 31-year-old victim was reportedly caught in the chaos and sustained a stab wound in his shoulder. He also sustained head injuries.

Police said the suspect used an improvised weapon.

The victim was rushed to the hospital and is now in safe condition.

“Ingon sa biktima, usa ka 31-anyos ug itago nato siya sa alyas nga Dodoy usa siya ka trisikad driver ug gidunggab siya sa suspek ug naigo ang ibabaw nga walang bahin sa iyang abaga ug nakakuha pud siya og head injuries ug while (gakahitabo) tung riot naka-sustain pud siya og injuries,” Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (COCPO) Spokesperson, Capt. Emilita Simon, said.

Authorities are still investigating the cause of the riot.

The suspect arrested is facing charges and the case has been referred to the City Prosecutor’s Office.

Proper procedures for handling children in conflict with the law (CICL) are being followed, including an inquest proceeding and assessment by a social worker.
