The southwest monsoon or habagat continues to bring heavy rains to Benguet, triggering floods in Baguio City and landslides in the municipality of Itogon.

In Barangay Irisan, Baguio City, village officials are dealing with strong floodwater flow due to clogged canals.

A powerful stream of water was seen rushing through Purok 16 around noon on Monday, July 7, 2025, after the drainage wall gave way.

“Noong binuksan namin ang kanal, binuksan ng DPWH, hindi maiwasan na may mga basura na isang contributor kaya nagkaganun ang kanal natin,” Arthur Carlos, chairman of Barangay Irisan, said.

ITOGON LANDSLIDE

In Sitio Acupan, Camp 3, Barangay Virac, Itogon, Benguet, the local government remains on high alert following a landslide last week that damaged 13 houses.

Authorities fear more landslides could occur if the rains continue.

“Baka uulan na naman nang malakas, baka may mga putik na bababa pa,” Engr. Cyril Batcagan, Itogon Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer, said.

Since last week, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and the local government have been providing aid to affected families in Itogon.
