A dashboard camera video showed how a speeding white car slid and slammed into a modernized public utility jeepney (PUJ).

Cracks on the PUJ’s windshield were captured by the footage on impact. Meanwhile, the camera inside the PUJ recorded how passengers were thrown off their seats upon impact.

The video further captured responders administering first aid to injured passengers.

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) 6 released the video of the vehicular accident in Barangay San Antonio, Oton, Iloilo on July 6, 2025.

The incident killed the car’s 21-year-old driver.

The dashcam video supported the findings of the Oton Police in its initial investigation that the car driver  plied the lane supposedly for the PUJ, and was moving speedily despite the condition of the road under a rainy weather.

Despite the affirmation, LTO 6 has issued a show cause order to the 40-year-old PUJ driver, Jeto Sicabalo, to explain his side to the incident.

“Hindi ibig sabihin na kapag binigyan ka ng show cause, may kasalanan ka na. Ito’y upang matiyak na may kumpletong background ang ating LTO sa nangyaring aksidente,” said Jeck Conlu, LTO 6 assistant director.

As for the general manager of the cooperative that operates the modernized PUJ, he said their driver stood ground that he is innocent, and in fact he is one of victims in the said incident.

The driver has already made a reply to the show cause order on July 11, 2025.

“Sinikap niya talagang iwasan pero alanganin na talaga. Kahit gaano pa ang kanyang pagpreno, mahahagip talaga siya ng sasakyan. Dahil madulas ang kalsada, kung mag-full brake ang driver, may tendency na matumba pa ang bus,” John Vincent Genelazo, general manager of the Alliance of Provincial Owners and Drivers Transport Cooperative, pointed out.

Further, LTO 6 has mulled reportedly on either suspending or revoking the license of the driver.

The family of the car driver did not pursue a case against the PUJ driver, police said.

“Kung hindi sila satisfied sa imbestigasyon ng pulisya, pwede silang humingi ng tulong sa private counsel para makakuha sila ng ibang opinyon,” Lt. Col. Abner Jordan, officer in charge of Oton Municipal Station, said.
