Two of three suspects in the killing of an eight-year-old girl in Timoga, Barangay Buru-un, Iligan City have been arrested.

The suspects are 24 and 30 years old.

The 24-year-old man was arrested during a pot session while the 30-year-old suspect was arrested on July 2, 2025 during a buy-bust operation.

Authorities are still pursuing the 29-year-old suspect, as of this writing.

The victim was reported missing on June 5, 2025 after she went swimming at a stream. Her lifeless body was found on a rock at a grassy area near the stream four days later on June 9.

Based on initial investigation, the victim may have been killed by strangulation. She is believed to have been raped since her underwear has been pulled down.

Police said a 10-year-old student who was with the girl on June 5 said that while they were swimming, the suspects approached them and offered P1,000 to go with them. The victim reportedly went with the suspects while the witness did not because of a foot injury. That was said to be the last time the victim was seen alive.

The local government gave a P100,000 reward to the family of the 10-year-old student and added P100,000 for the child’s trust fund.

GMA Regional TV One Mindanao is reaching out to the victim’s family for a statement, as of this writing.
