Rockslides and floods hit parts of the Cordillera region following days of heavy rain from the southwest monsoon.
In Bauko, Mountain Province, huge boulders rolled down the slopes of the Mabaay section, particularly the Ampingke area of Halsema Highway, on Friday, July 11, 2025.
Photos from the area showed large rocks scattered across the highway.
Officials said the rockfall was caused by continuous rain from the habagat.
As of Monday, July 14, 2025, all roads in the town are now passable, but the public is urged to remain cautious, especially at night.
“Dobleng pag-iingat sa lahat ng mga motorista, kasi malakas pa ang ulan at sa gabi. Doble-ingat lalo na sa mga landslide-prone areas,” Jessie Isican, Bauko MDRRM Officer, said.
In Tuba, Benguet, a portion of Kennon Road turned into a cascading stream after strong water from the mountains gushed down the slopes near Camp 1.
A motorist captured the scene on video while navigating the flooded road slowly.
The heavy downpour also slowed traffic as drivers were forced to move cautiously through the waterlogged section.
Authorities strongly advised motorists to use Marcos Highway instead of Kennon Road, especially during bad weather.
“Medyo delikado pa rin. There are still rainfall na nangyayari at sa mga landslide-prone areas na puwedeng mangyari or nangyayari na,” Engr. Larry Esperanza, PAGASA-Baguio Chief Meteorologist, said.
In Barangay Castro, Sudipen, La Union, the water level at a river rose on Sunday, July 13, 2025. This rendered the Castro-Porporiket access road impassable for several hours to light vehicles.
