A 28-year-old policewoman died after her service firearm reportedly went off accidentally at the female quarters at the Matanao Police Statioin in Davao del Sur.

She was hit in the head.

According to a report from the Davao del Sur Police Provincial Office, the patrolwoman was reportedly preparing her issued 9mm pistol in anticipation of a buy-bust operation.

However, the firearm reportedly fell. As she tried to catch it, she reportedly pulled the trigger accidentally, causing the gun to discharge.

The patrolwoman was rushed to the hospital but did not survive.

Police assured the public that proper protocols are being followed and a thorough investigation into the incident is underway.

The Matanao Police Station held a peace prayer and candle lighting ceremony as a tribute to the policewoman.
