A 40-year-old man hacked dead his own 65-year-old father in Barangay Sudlon 1 (Uno), upland Cebu City. The father was reportedly suffering from reduced mobility due to paralysis.

According to authorities, the suspect is involved in illegal drugs. He is the eldest child of the victim.

The victim was identified as Victor Urbenario.

The brutal incident happened evening on July 10, 2025, in Sitio Alfagate, Barangay Sudlon Uno.

A sibling of the victim found the bloodied body of Victor who sustained multiple hack wounds on the head, and on other parts of his body.

The suspect was identified as Victor's son, Jojo Urbenario, 40 years old, who fled after perpetrating the crime.

According to Victor’s wife, Euphemia, she was not around when the incident happened. However, had she been around, she would have been dead by now, citing that their son threatened to kill them earlier.

Eufemia said her son has been displaying unusual behavior and may have been going through mental challenges.

Based on police investigation, the suspect has been involved in illegal drugs, and got angry when he was reprimanded by his father about it, according to Police Captain Wilmer Castillo, chief of Malubog Police Station 12.  

The suspect was arrested immediately via a hot pursuit operation.

The suspect owned up to the crime, and said that he hacked his  father, thinking the old man was about to attack him with a machete.

Euphemia, the mother, said she is bent on filing a case against her son.
