A 24-year-old male helpmate who was trimming tree branches hit a live wire in Canlaon City, Province of Negros Oriental.

The man was standing on the rooftop of a house owned by his boss when he got electrocuted.

The incident took place in Sitio Angas, Barangay Mabigo morning on July 14, 2025.

He was rushed to the Canlaon District Hospital but was pronounced there dead on arrival.

Based on police investigation, led by Police Staff Sergeant Carl Wilfred Villoria, the man was chopping off branches that have touched the roof when he hacked accidentally a power line.

As the service drop wire was live, the electric current traveled to the machete the man was using.

According to the Canlaon City Police, the victim’s employer vowed assistance to his family.

Police said that the public should learn from the incident, to always keep precautionary measures, especially when performing tasks outdoors where power lines are conspicuous.
