A 27-year-old man died while five others were injured after a pickup truck crashed into a store in Sergio Osmeña, Zamboanga del Norte.
Based on investigation, the pickup truck allegedly tried to overtake another vehicle when the driver lost control due to the slippery road.
“Nag-overtake siya sa isang sasakyan and then dahil medyo malakas ang ulan ng mga oras na iyon, medyo matubig pa yung daan, parang nawalan siya ng control sa sasakyan,” Police Regional Office-Zamboanga (PRO-9) Spokesperson, Major Shellamie Chang, said.
The couple who was inside the store at that time was hit and was rushed to the hospital, but the man was declared dead on arrival.
The 39-year-old driver of the pickup truck and his three companions, all employees of the Department of Human Settlement and Urban Development-9, were also brought to the hospital.
Meanwhile, the store was damaged severely and an electric post in front of the store was nearly knocked down by the impact.
The driver may face charges for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide, serious physical injury, and damage to property.
Police are currently facilitating a possible settlement between the parties involved.
