The barangay chairman of Barangay San Isidro in Laur, Nueva Ecija was shot dead while on his way home from the barangay hall.
The shooting happened evening on Sunday, July 13, 2025.
Authorities identified the victim as Cesar Asuncion.
Based on initial police investigation, unknown suspects gunned him down near his home and fled quickly toward Palayan City.
Asuncion suffered gunshot wounds to the head and chest from a caliber .45 pistol. He was rushed to Bongabon District Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Police recovered five empty shells from the scene. Investigators are still working to identify the suspects and determine the motive behind the killing.
Family members and residents are calling for justice for the slain barangay official.
