Several families in Tarragona, Davao Oriental have been displaced due to land movements and severe soil saturation brought about by heavy and prolonged rains in the first week of July 2025.

According to the provincial government, the continuous downpour from July 2 to 7 resulted in ground instability and land movements in Barangays Cabagayan and Tomoaong.

Purok Al-Rakhma in Barangay Cabagayan was also found unsafe, based on the joint inspection conducted by the Municipal and Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council and Municipal Engineering Office on July 7.

At least 11 families in the area were moved to an evacuation center.

On July 7, 2025, the MDRRMO declared an area in Barangay Tomoaong uninhabitable following continued rainfall the day before.

Six families were also relocated to a temporary housing adjacent to the barangay hall.

The provincial government added that the barangay chairman of Tomoaong had reported land movement near the barangay hall on June 16.

Residents affected were advised to evacuate and 20 tents were provided as temporary shelter.

“Given the confirmed hazards, Barangays Cabagayan and Tomoaong remain under heightened monitoring. Relocation measures and support interventions are imperative to safeguard displaced families and mitigate further risk,” the provincial government reported in a Facebook post.

The families affected were given immediate assistance and support.

“Under the leadership of Governor Nelson L. Dayanghirang, the Provincial Government of Davao Oriental continues to enforce precautionary measures in full coordination with national disaster risk reduction protocols,” the provincial government added.
