A 26-year-old woman was shot dead inside her apartment in Barangay Madaum, Tagum City, Davao del Norte dawn on Wednesday, July 16, 2025.

Police said the victim and her two friends were drinking inside the apartment when someone knocked on the door.

When the victim stepped out to check, a gunshot was heard, and the victim was found bleeding near the doorway.

Investigators are looking into jealousy as possible motive.

The 49-year-old suspect was arrested during hot pursuit operation at an inn in Panabo City, Davao del Norte.

Seized from the suspect were suspected illegal drugs and the firearm he allegedly used in the crime.

“Ang katong nanuktok, mao to ang suspek. Pag-open sa door, naa’y nadunggan ang kauban nga buto. So, pag-gawas, mao na to, nakita na nila ilang kauban nga naa na’y dugo sa pultahan. Ang giingon sa investigators karon nga dako og posibilidad nga ma-solve ang case,” Davao del Norte Police Provincial Office Spokesperson, Major Anjanette Tirador, said.
