A 70-year-old man was injured after unidentified gunmen riddled his home with bullets in Barangay Kinawe, Libona, Bukidnon.

Series of gunshots stirred residents past midnight on Wednesday, July 16, 2025.

Authorities said the house of the victim was strafed while he and his wife were sleeping inside.

Neighbors claimed to have heard at least 30 gunshots.

“Ayha mi niduol sa area mga 10 minutes pa nilabay kay dili ta kumpyansa gud  basin naa pay resbak nga naghupo ra ba kaha to diha,” a resident, alias “Kiko,” said.

No one reportedly saw the gunmen as it was dark at that time.

Police recovered 28 empty shells from an M16 rifle and eight empty shells from a caliber 9mm pistol from the area.

The gunfire was concentrated on the side of the house where the victim was sleeping. The walls were riddled with bullet holes and a chicken was killed.

The victim sustained three gunshot wounds and is now receiving treatment at the hospital. Fortunately, his wife was unharmed.

Authorities are eyeing land dispute as motive behind the attack.

It was learned that this was not the first time the victim had been attacked. Prior to the incident, the suspects attempted to burn down his house, but neighbors were able to put it out.

“Niadtong March 29 nahitabo na gihapon ang susamang insidente sa pagpusil sa biktima ug kini identified ang suspetsado ug na file na sa Libona ang kaso nga attempted murder. Gituohan nga kini nga insidente ganina ang mao gihapon nga suspetsado ang naghimo,” Police Regional Office-Northern Mindanao (PRO-10) Spokesperson, Major Joann Navarro, said.

Investigation into the incident continues.
