A woman who was nine months pregnant died after she was hit by a coconut tree that fell while walking home in Barangay Ticulon, Malita, Davao Occidental.

The fetus she was carrying and a dog that happened to be in the area also died.

According to one of the responders of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), the woman was on her way home on foot after doing laundry at a nearby well when the tree fell suddenly on her as she passed by.

“Dili man kaayo hangin. Centennial to siya nga lubi, kanang tag-as kaayo nga lubi. Then, katong area bisag usa ka punuan, wala gyu’y nakasangit sa iyaha, maong nahawan didtong dapit. Direct gyud sa iyaha pagkaigo, wala gyud nasangit ba,” MDRRMO responder, Gio Bandayanon, said.

The woman was brought to the hospital but died later after sustaining multiple injuries, including broken bones in both legs, a broken bone in her left arm, and severe skull fracture.
