A policeman, with the rank of staff sergeant, got electrocuted during a communication exercise in the Municipality of Mina, Province of Iloilo.

The incident happened in Barangay Tolarucan on July 16, 2025 at around 8 a.m.

According to Mina Police Station, policemen were conducting a border control exercise at the boundary of Barangay Tolarucan in the towns of Mina and Janiuay.

The staff sergeant used his handheld radio. As there was no signal, he attached an antenna to it. However, a live wire exploded suddenly near him.

“Gulpi lang naglupok ang live wire mga pila lang ka meters away sa iya. Paglupok niya siguro nalab-ot ang antenna sang radio naka-sustain siya sang second-degree burn sa wala nga kamot kag sa liog,” Captain Isagani Tabares, chief of Mina Municipal Police Station, said.

As of this writing, the policeman is already in stable condition and recuperating at the hospital.

Meanwhile, two persons in Hinoba-an town, Province of Negros Occidental died in a separate incident of electrocution.

Alias “Jornalyn,” 36 years old, and alias “Florante,” 40 years old, got electrocuted in Purok Daisy, Barangay Talacagay, Hinoba-an.

According to police investigation, Jornalyn was hanging clothes to dry from a metal wire, unaware that it was touching a live wire.

Florante died in an attempt to rescue Jornalyn.

“Paghalay niya sang iya hinalay, wala siya kabalo nga ang iya halayan gale, nakatapik na sa kuryente, sa open wire,” according to Major Jaynick Bermudez, chief of Hinoba-an Municipal Police Station.
