A 35-year-old woman died after the habal-habal (motorcycle for hire) she was riding was hit by a pickup truck in General Santos City on Thursday, July 17, 2025.
The habal-habal driver is also in critical condition, as of this writing.
According to the cousin of the woman’s husband, the woman had only gone out to buy fish and was on a call with her husband while riding the motorcycle. Moments later, the call was cut off.
“Nabalaka nganung naputol… pag-kontact niya, dili na makontak. Ang naka-verify is ang mga barkada atong akong pinsan, on the spot ang nabangga,” cousin of the woman’s husband, Rodmar Miñal, said.
The pickup truck involved allegedly sped off after the incident. However, the vehicle’s plate was left in the area after the collision.
“Dahil may naiwan doon na putol na temporary plate number, at kumpleto yung file number, I instructed my coordinator to coordinate with the Land Transportation Office para alamin ang identify ng red pickup,” Police Station 8 Commander, major Robert Fores, said.
On Friday, July 18, the pickup truck driver surrendered and assured to settle with the victims’ families.
“Mag-settle pa mi; hulaton na ang pamilya sa babae,” Miñal said.
Meanwhile, in South Cotabato, a dump truck loaded with sand and gravel overturned in Upper Klinan, Polomolok.
The 37-year-old driver sustained minor injuries while his helper was unharmed.
