Several houses and structures in Barangay Indahag, Cagayan de Oro City were damaged by strong winds.
Residents said the strong winds caused a tree to fall and ripped off roofs in Habitat Phase 1, Barangay Indahag.
“Nilagubo na lang paghuman nako og luto sa panihapon, puro kahoy na dayun ang akong nakita dinha, dagko kayo, nangabali ang mga kahoy diha,” a resident, Jade Estaño, said.
The roof of a beauty parlor at Habitat Phase 2 was also damaged after a jackfruit tree fell.
“Kalit raman gyud to mikusog ang hangin kanang alimpulos ba nga hangin unya mura siya og mutuyok-tuyok unya ang mga naagian niya unya mangabali lang gyud ang sanga sama ani iyang naagian unya apil tung eskwelahan didto sa pikas,” another resident, Florecio Magada, said.
The roof of a daycare center in the area was also torn off and the ceiling of a classroom was damaged due to water leakage.
Barangay Indahag Chairman Marlon Bongay ordered the immediate installation of a new roof to avoid class disruptions.
“Amo ni tiwason karon nakita naman ninyo nga naa na’y bag-ong sin mao ni among gi-aksyonan tungod sa adunay klase sa matag-adlaw sa daycare center. Kami sa barangay maningkamot gyud mi diretso nga matabangan ang problema dinhi sa Brgy. Indahag,” Barangay Councilman Primo Taglinao said.
No one was reported hurt in the incident.
The barangay continues to assess the total damage.
State weather bureau PAGASA is still verifying if the incident was caused by a whirlwind.
PAGASA earlier warned that the southwest monsoon (Habagat), intensified by Tropical Storm Crising, is affecting Mindanao.
