Huge boulders tumbled down a mountainside in Baguio City over the weekend, crushing a dog and damaging property along Kennon Road, including a parked vehicle and a residential garage.

Closed circuit television (CCTV) footage captured the moment a large boulder rolled down from the mountains and crushed a dog and a parked vehicle on the property of Conniey Potenciano in Camp 7, Kennon Road, Baguio City afternoon on Saturday, July 19, 2025.

One of Potenciano’s dogs seen in the video survived, but another was not as lucky.

Later that day, an even larger boulder came crashing down and smashed through their garage.

The first boulder rolled down just before 1 p.m., crushing a parked vehicle. By around 5 p.m., a second, much larger boulder descended and destroyed the family’s garage. The size of the boulder, she said, could have been fatal if it had struck anyone.

Four family members who were in the garage at the time managed to escape just in time.

“Buti kamo, nakaalis na ang DSWD at pulis. Sila na lang na apat ang naiwan, tapos ayan na yung malaking bato. Nakatakbo sila, nakatalon sila, yung may arthritis na iika-ika, nakatalon,” Conniey Potenciano, the homeowner, said.

Authorities are set to remove the boulders and conduct an ocular inspection in the area to assess the condition of the mountainside.

“Pag-aaralan from technical expert mula sa MGB, DPWH-CAR kung anong magandang intervention na gawin para mapaigting ang kaligtasan sa lugar,” Frankie Cortez, Chief of the Operations Section of OCD-CAR, said.

The Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) considers many areas in the Cordillera region, including Baguio and Kennon Road, as highly prone to landslides.

“Talagang prone ang landslide sa Cordillera including Baguio City and ang Kennon Road. Naglabas na tayo ng guidance na dapat pag-ibayuhin ang alertness sa mga lugar sa Kennon Road at yung mga residente dapat doble pag-iingat,” Cortez added.

In a separate incident, part of the Longlong-Tam-awan Road in Baguio was also affected by a rockslide. Landslides were also reported in other parts of the Cordillera region, including Benguet, Apayao, Abra, and Mountain Province.

As of this writing, Kennon Road remains closed to motorists due to a rockfall recorded at the rockshed entrance in Camp 6, Tuba, Benguet.

Clearing operations are ongoing, and motorists are urged to stay alert due to continued risks of falling rocks.
