Residents in Dagupan City are bracing for heavier flooding as high tide levels, reaching over one meter, are expected to persist until July 28, 2025.
The tide, combined with continuous rain from the southwest monsoon, or habagat, could worsen the city’s flood-prone areas, particularly near the river.
As of July 20, 2025, the average tide level in Dagupan stands at 1.23 meters, with the highest forecast of 1.36 meters expected on July 24 and 25, 2025.
“Ini-expect na naman ng barangays na malapit sa river, magkakaroon na naman ng baha sa kanilang areas,” Melykhen Bauzon, head of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) and Public Alert Response and Monitoring Center (PARMC), said.
In Sitio Baybay, Barangay Pantal, local residents like Elma Cayabyab have started preparing for the worst. Her family lives close to the river and is no stranger to flooding. Still, the disruption it brings is hard to ignore.
“Pag halimbawa pag maabot ‘yung bahay namin, lilikas na lang kami. Pero kung hindi naman, sa taas na lang kami ng bahay,” she said.
Cayabyab added that even if they’ve grown used to rising waters, the inconvenience remains.
“Sobrang hirap po lalo na kung may gusto kang bilhin, hindi ka makakapunta agad dahil baha po,” she added.
The PARMC has assured the public of continuous monitoring, especially in low-lying areas vulnerable to rising tides and heavy rain.
