Seven students in Sibalom, Antique were rushed again to the hospital past 11 a.m. on Monday, July 21, 2025.
The seven junior high school students of Pis-anan National High School complained of falling ill while attending a Holy Mass upon their return to the school for the resumption of in-person classes.
The students were taken to the Ramon Maza, Sr. Memorial Hospital.
To recall, the students were instructed to shift to modular learning after over 200 students fell ill on July 2, 2025, for inhaling alleged foul fumes that smelled like rotten guavas.
According to Rodel Esler, information officer of the Unified Incident Command Center in Sibalom, Antique, the students must have recalled their unpleasant memories of the incident.
“Parang nanghina lang, nahirapang huminga. Siguro sa sobra nilang nerbiyos. Nang inadmit sila sa ospital, okay naman sila. Wala namang mga findings. Normal naman,” Esler said.
As of this writing, the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Sibalom has already considered the situation under control.
The students are being observed in the hospital.
Classes were suspended temporarily in response to the situation.
LGU and school officials are set to discuss additional steps to deal with the situation.
“Syempre, sinisegurado ng eskwelahan at munisipyo na safe ang kabataan sa pagbalik sa eskwelahan na hindi sila makalanghap ng the same sa naamoy nila noon,” Esler added.
The LGU has clarified that the venue of the Holy Mass was distant from the Senior High School Department where the past incident took place.
