A man was killed while a police officer was injured when the service of arrest warrant resulted in an exchange of fire in Barangay Malungung, Taraka, Lanao del Sur.

Operatives were about to serve the warrant for murder against the subject identified as alias “Farhan” when the latter allegedly opened fire using a 9mm pistol.

Police retaliated and the encounter ensued.

The suspect was hit and was declared dead on arrival at the hospital.

One of the operatives also sustained injuries and was brought to the hospital for treatment. He is in stable condition, as of this writing.

Recovered from the suspect were the firearm and several ammunition.

“This incident highlights the continuing challenges faced by our police officers in ensuring peace and security in the Bangsamoro region. Nevertheless, PRO BAR remains firm in its mandate to uphold the law, protect the community, and promote a safe and peaceful environment for all, always guided by integrity, respect for human rights, and adherence to the rule of law,” Police Regional Office-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region (PRO-BAR) said.
