Floodwaters from the overflowing Payas Creek have swamped over 1,700 homes in Barangay Anolid, Mangaldan, Pangasinan, following continuous rains brought by the southwest monsoon, or habagat.
Residents were seen wading through knee-deep water as the streets turned into streams. Flooding began late afternoon on Monday, July 21, 2025 when the Payas Creek overflowed due to heavy rainfall.
Barangay Chairwoman Marissa Honsayco said the situation could have been worse if they had not prepared early.
“Nakita namin ang level ng tubig pataas ng pataas. Mabuti na lang at naagapan namin ang dredging, kasi kung wala ang dredging, malamang mas mataas ang baha,” she said.
Anolid Elementary School was also affected. The water reached inside classrooms, forcing teachers to raise books and appliances to higher ground. The school is only a few meters away from the creek.
The school canteen also suffered losses.
“Andaming nasayang na pagkain, nabasa na kasi,” Giselle Cera, school canteen supervisor, said.
Floodwaters also reached the elevated covered court.
Local officials continue to monitor the situation.
