At least 79 of Iloilo City’s 180 barangays are flooded, based on data from the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) as of 2 p.m. on Wednesday, July 23, 2025.
Over 800 individuals are displaced, seeking temporary shelter in evacuation centers.
At least eight families from Barangay Taft North, Mandurriao District have continued to seek temporary shelter at a makeshift evacuation center after flooding hit the area due to monsoon rains enhanced by tropical cyclones.
“Pinagawa lang ito ni Kap [referring to the barangay captain]. Kasi siksikan kami sa barangay hall,” Jeffrey Hibionada, an evacuee, said.
The barangay has recommended the evacuation of at least 78 families affected by floods.
At the plaza of La Paz District, the water rose nearly to gutter-level. Despite the flooding, an owner of a vulcanizing shop, Eugene Casandag, continues to cater to customers.
“Kahit na binabaha, ang mahalaga, may kita kasi mahirap talaga,” Casandag said.
A few public markets are flooded. A vendor has complained at the impact of the adverse weather condition.
“Ang hina ng kita kasi maulan. Walang tao. Walang benta,” Jackielyn Miag-ao, a vendor, said.
In Barangay San Isidro, Jaro, galvanized iron roof sheets were reportedly blown off by strong winds, while a few trees in Barangay Santa Cruz, Arevalo were toppled. No one was reported hurt in the said incidents.
Residents have continuously been reminded to stay alert and vigilant.
"Ang mga member ng ating reponse clusters are all required na mag-send ng representatives. And at the same time, all response units are on high alert for any possible response at any eventuality,” according to Darwin Papa, head of the Operation Division of Iloilo City DRRMO.
