An eight-year-old boy met a tragic death after he got trapped inside a house when a fire hit a residential area in Barangay Poblacion, Talitay, Maguindanao del Norte.

The fire broke out shortly before midnight on Wednesday, July 23, 2025.

Based on investigation, the boy’s mother may have panicked when the fire broke out and rushed out of their house. The boy was reportedly asleep at that time. When the mother went back for the boy, the fire has already grown bigger.

“Mayroong bata, eight years old, kasi natutulog ata siya, hindi niya namalayan… and then, yung nanay, nag-panic. So tumakbo na lang yung nanay palabas. Pagbalik niya biglang lumaki na yung sunog, hindi na niya nabalikan yung kanyang anak,” BFP Datu Odin Sinsuat Municipal Fire Marshal, Fire Senior Inspector, Christel Sotelo, said.

The fire was put out after nearly an hour.

According to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Datu Odin Sinsuat, at least five families were displaced after their houses were razed to the ground.

BFP is still investigating the cause of the fire.

Authorities have provided assistance to the families affected, including the family of the boy who died.
