Floodwaters inundated portions of a barangay in Zarraga town, Province of Iloilo after heavy rain fell dawn on Thursday, July 24, 2025.

Residents of Barangay Jalaud Sur were reported to have waken up to waist-deep flooding.

Julie Pineda, a resident, said she started moving her important belongings up on a dry area prior to the incident.

“Kagabi pa lang, inilagay na namin sa taas ang aming mga gamit upang makasigurado. Kung ganito ang sitwasyon, naghahanda na kami,” Pineda said.

Other residents have also relocated their pets to a safer place, such as Ronel Zaragoza who owns a dog. 

“Umiiyak na sya dahil malalim na ang tubig. Dito lang muna. Lalagyan ko sya ng takip upang hindi mabasa,” Zaragoza said.

According to data from Zarraga Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO), a total of 730 families, or a total of 2,561 individuals are affected by adverse weather conditions.

“Ang sa ibang creeks natin, sa Janipaan, Inagdangan at dito sa Sigangao creek, nag-o-overflow, flooded. Ngunit sa Jalaur, above normal lang,” according to Architect Alberto Gimay, head of Zarraga MDRRMO.

At least 36 families were evacuated. One of individuals affected is 72-year-old Betty Perolina. “Kapag lumalim hanggang bukas, hindi pa kami makaka-uwi,” Perolina said.

However, flooding in a few areas in Leganes town has continued, as of this writing especially along the coastal areas.

“Mino-monitor namin dahil unti-unting tumataas ang tubig,” said David Sinay, municipal administrator of the Local Government Unit of Leganes.

Meanwhile, a house in Sitio Paraiso, Barangay Cubay, Jaro in Iloilo City was destroyed after a fallen tree hit the structure. One house was partially damaged.

No one was reported hurt in the incident.  

“Unti-unti siyang bumigay kaya sumigaw ako na matutumba yung puno,” Rona Mondejar, a resident, narrated.

According to the Office of Civil Defense 6, over 160,000 individuals were affected by the inclement weather.

Agricultural damages posted nearly P25 million, and over P122 million in infrastructure in Western Visayas.

“For Capiz, rice and corn. Ang affected na rice farmers natin, 1,471 at sa mga corn crops, eight farmers lang…Yung mga flood control projects natin and bridges and revetment,” OCD 6 Director Raul Fernandez said.
