"Aim for stories that are life-changing!"
Renowned and multi-awarded broadcast journalist Kara Patria David of GMA Integrated News delivered a powerful message at the Information Officers Summit in Bacolod City on Friday, July 25, 2025 --- to pursue stories that are not just new but are life-changing.
Talking about “Disaster Narratives: Storytelling through Documentary Production,” Kara David shared professional tips and personal experiences on effective storytelling, as she highlighted the power of communication driving positive change in society, according to a post of the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) Negros Occidental.
“Our stories are powerful. Ang ating mga kuwento ay pwedeng maging instrumento ng pagbabago—gaano man ‘yan kalaki o kaliit. No matter how short your story is… if told in the right way, pwede itong maging force of power. Pwede itong makapagpabago ng buhay," David said.
David hosts "I-Witness," a Philippine television documentary show broadcast by GMA Network, Inc. as well as "Pina Sarap," a travel and food documentary program; and is a journalism professor at the University of the Philippines in Diliman, Quezon City.
PIA Negros Occidental cited that at least 360 information officers from national government agencies (NGAs) and local government units (LGUs), barangay information officers (BIOs), and disaster risk reduction and management (DRRM) officers from the Provinces of Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Iloilo, and Negros Occidental attended the hybrid event.
