A police officer assigned at the Talisay City Police Station was arrested in Sogod town, northern Cebu after running amok reportedly inside a cockpit and punching a responding policeman.

As of this writing, the police officer, with the rank of corporal, was detained at the custodial facility of the Sogod Police Station.

He is set to face criminal and administrative charges for being inside a cockpit, drinking liquor, and going berserk, causing alarm and scandal.

It was reported that the corporal challenged a retired policeman to a fistfight, and when he was reprimanded by police personnel of Sogod, he punched one of the responding cops.

The incident happened past 4 p.m. on July 23, 2025 in Barangay Bawu, Sogod.

Lt. Col. Maila Maramag, chief of the Talisay City Police Office, confirmed that the suspect is assigned at the Talisay City Police Station as one of foot patrollers in Barangay Tabunok.

He was on day-off when the incident happened and was supposed to report for duty at 10 p.m. on July 24, 2025.

In a background check, it was confirmed that the policeman has a record for running amok when he gets drunk.

Aside from a criminal case on direct assault and alarm and scandal, he will be facing an administrative case for his presence in a cockpit which is against the code of ethics and standards of professional conduct among policemen, or government employees.

Government employees, including uniformed personnel, are generally prohibited from entering, staying in, or participating in gambling activities at cockpits and other similar establishments like casinos.

Police Captain Blane Dunn Tabares, public information officer of the Cebu Police Provincial Office, hopes that the incident may serve a lesson to other policemen.
