Two men were arrested on Friday, July 25, 2025, for allegedly extorting money and threatening a prosecutor in Butuan City.
In a press statement, the Butuan City Police Office (BCPO) said the 55-year-old prosecutor was in front of a pharmacy in Barangay Holy Redeemer when the two suspects approached and allegedly asked for money.
The prosecutor noticed that both suspects were armed with a bolo, with one of them wielding it in a threatening manner.
The victim immediately called for police assistance.
Authorities arrested the suspects identified as alias “Dung” and alias “Dayod,” both residents of San Fernando, Bukidnon.
The suspects were taken into police custody and will face charges for illegal possession of deadly weapon and grave threats under Article 282 of the Revised Penal Code.
Police said the suspects may have intended to scam and intimidate the victim.
"Gipasidunggan ko ang paspas ug determinadong aksyon sa atong mga personahe sa BCPS2. Ang ilang dali nga pagresponde nakapugong sa posibleng makalilisang nga panghitabo ug nasiguro ang seguridad sa atong biktima. Kini nga insidente nga naglakip sa usa ka opisyal sa gobyerno usa ka seryosong butang,” Butuan City Police Office Director, Col. Rommel Villamor, said.
“Kining panghitabo usa ka pahimangno sa tanang buot mosamok sa kalinaw ug mopakatap og kahadlok sa komunidad—wala kami'y pasaylo sa mga ingong binuhatan. Padayon ang Butuan City Police Office sa pagpanalipod sa balaod ug sa katawhan,” he added.
